FAQ

How do you get three stars in Mission 3?
Lose no trucks before the excavations are complete. Two stars allows fewer than three trucks lost, and one star is earned by finishing the dig whatever happens to the convoy. The official manual makes the loss count the entire star rating, so route planning matters more than speed.
Why do my trucks keep losing condition in the desert?
Trucks degrade quickly once they leave a maintenance camp covered by tools. Deliver tools to the marked Bedouin camps to build them up, then route every line through the maintained radius with waypoints instead of cutting straight across open sand. If a leg still runs outside coverage, put a single truck on it rather than the whole fleet.
What is the medal task in Desert Adventure?
Recover the remains. A body has been found in the desert, and the medal is awarded for retrieving it. Search the ruins near the route before the dig finishes: the remains are a skeleton in American clothes, a brown hat and a whip, a deliberate nod to a famous movie archaeologist.
What do you deliver in Mission 3?
Tools to the first Bedouin maintenance camp, then iron ore from the old British mine to the old steel mill, steel from the mill to the machine factory, and machines to the excavation site. Once the equipment is on site, the dig itself completes the mission.
What do the sheikh's riddles mean?
Salim Al-Zalabia hints at the safe route rather than the direct one: sand behaves like water and swallows heavy vehicles, so firm rocky ground and an honest detour beat the shortest line. Big dunes are the worst crossing in the mission, and the convoys that survive treat them as a wall, not a road.
How many trucks do you get in Mission 3?
The mission hands you a fixed expedition convoy rather than a normal vehicle budget, so you assign the trucks you already own to each new line instead of buying replacements. Because every loss is permanent for the star rating, park or pause a truck before it enters an unmaintained stretch.
Do you need a passenger line in Mission 3?
No. The entire mission runs on cargo trucks and the excavation; no passenger service is required, so all of your attention can go into maintenance coverage, waypoints and the delivery chains.

The third campaign mission, Desert Adventure, drops you in Wadi Rum with an archaeology expedition and a convoy of trucks that the desert is actively trying to eat. The official brief is one line long — accompany Nasra Ramahi on her expedition and unearth artifacts — but the score is not about the digging at all. It is about how many trucks you lose on the way there.

What is Mission 3 in Transport Fever 3?

Desert Adventure is the third of the eight campaign missions and is set in Wadi Rum, Jordan — the manual dates the campaign’s stories to the 20th and 21st centuries without fixing a year. You handle the logistics for archaeologist Nasra Ramahi, guided by Bedouin sheikh Salim Al-Zalabia, while Baron von Schlitzwiesen schemes to take credit for whatever the expedition finds.

Like the early campaign missions, this one is a tutorial wearing a story: it teaches vehicle maintenance, line waypoints and terraforming — three tools the rest of the campaign keeps asking for. If you skipped straight into free play, the beginner tips cover the same ground without the desert attached.

Mission 3 stars and the medal

Result Requirement
One star Complete the excavations
Two stars Lose fewer than 3 trucks before the excavations are complete
Three stars Lose no trucks before the excavations are complete
Medal Recover the remains

The official campaign manual states the goals exactly like that: the primary objective is the dig, and the two higher ratings are nothing but a loss count. There is no time limit and no revenue target, so a slow, careful run scores better than a fast, expensive one.

The objective order

The mission moves through a fixed supply chain. Each step unlocks the next, and the convoy is expected to survive all of them.

  1. Tools to the first maintenance camp. A supply line from the tool factory to the camp outside Aqaba builds the expedition’s first rest stop. Without maintained vehicles, later legs are already lost.
  2. Reconnect the old iron mine. The British left an iron mine behind, and it has to be back on the road network before it produces anything.
  3. Iron ore to the old steel mill. A short ore run restarts the mill; this is the same raw-material chain mapped in the cargo and warehouse guide, just with the map handing you the buildings.
  4. Steel to the machine factory. The mill’s steel keeps the next link alive.
  5. Machines to the excavation site. Heavy equipment has to reach the dig before Nasra can start.
  6. Excavate. Use the terrain tools on the marked dig area to unearth artifacts and finish the mission.

The deliveries are small and counted — a few items per contract — so one truck per line is usually enough. Running the whole fleet at every stage is how players burn a star.

How to keep every truck alive

Build maintenance camps first. The Bedouin camps marked on the map are the only places that restore vehicle condition, and they only work once tools are delivered. Build them up along the convoy’s path as the mission hands you each area.

Route inside the maintained radius. A line takes the fastest path it can find unless you tell it otherwise. Add waypoints so trucks detour through camp coverage instead of crossing open sand, and check maintenance coverage before you press play — the walkthroughs at the bottom of this page spend most of their runtime nudging lines back into covered ground.

Watch for the condition drop. A truck leaving coverage starts losing condition quickly, and the walkthroughs show losses coming out of single unmaintained crossings. When a route has to leave coverage, assign one truck and pause it once it is home rather than letting the fleet cycle through the danger zone.

Firm ground beats sand. The mission tells you plainly that the machines need firm ground: rocky terrain is safe, dunes and loose sand are not. A longer path over rock is cheaper than a rebuild and a lost truck.

Protect trucks until the dig ends. The star check is “before the excavations are complete”, so the last few minutes count. Do not relax the routes once the machines arrive — send the dig crew in, finish the excavation, and keep the convoy parked.

The sheikh’s riddles, decoded

Salim’s advice is route guidance. In the walkthrough, his hints point to the same conclusion every time: the detour is the road. Sand behaves like water — it swallows the heavy and carries the light — so a convoy that hugs firm ground and takes the long way around arrives intact, while the shortest line across the dunes does not.

Practical version: when two paths meet, take the one with more rock under it and fewer dune crossings, even if it adds a waypoint or two.

Where the medal is: recover the remains

Early in the mission a scout reports a body in the desert, and retrieving it is the medal task. Search the ruins along the route rather than waiting until the dig is done: the remains are a skeleton in American clothes, a brown hat and a whip. The video walkthrough below marks the ruin cluster where it was found on the checked run.

What happens after Mission 3

Finishing the mission, with any number of stars, unlocks Mission 4, Biggest Festival Ever, in Bethel. The medal and the missing stars can be chased later, since campaign progress and mission saves live on the same profile. The full list of missions, locations and goals is in the campaign guide.
